Weekend Reading on Women's Representation February 26, 2016

By Cynthia Terrell on February 26, 2016

Dear all,

This week I will be especially brief as I am racing out the door!

Here are a couple things to read about women's representation that caught my eye.

Sarah John, FairVote's research director, has a write-up of the Irish elections that are taking place today! Stay tuned for more information on how women fare in the fair representation voting system used there.

The Institute for Women's Policy Research released their much anticipated Status of Women in the South report this week - from a quick read it looks like an incredible product.

NY Magazine had a long piece by Rebecca Traister on the strength of the Single American Woman voter which has sparked a lot of dialogue.

AAUW has a blog on Black Women in Politics: From Social Mobilizing to Elected Office that's an important read.

Events that caught my eye include:

MyVoice Women in Democracy Primary Forum on Monday, February 29 from 6-8pm

Tech, The Presidency, & Women Voters on Tuesday, March 8th at 8:30am

Fill the Room - DC Thursday, March 10, from 5:30 to 8pm

When Women Win Scholars Strategy Network Forum on Tuesday, April 26th

And finally, I found this piece from TIME on the 100 Most-Read Female Writers in College Classes very interesting.

International Women's Day is March 8th - I look forward to hearing about how you all have celebrated and seeing & sharing your great work on Facebook, Twitter, and in this weekly missive!

Cynthia

P.S. For those of you in DC check out Running Start's Women to Watch event - it looks like a great evening - hope to see you there!
